        Innovations

        DOCR recently instituted a mental health “step down” inmate housing unit atMCCF to address the expanding inmate population with severe mental healthissues.

        Inmates returning to the general population from the Crisis InterventionUnit are considered “at risk” and need additional services and supervision toensure successful integration to the general population. The action was takenas a solution to overcrowding in the Crisis Intervention Unit and the MedicalUnit.

        Collaborations and partnerships

        DOCR isengaged as a partner in two recent nationally recognized initiatives:

        • The WhiteHouse Data-Driven Justice Initiative that focuses on supporting localgovernment and organizations in pursuing data driven approaches to complexJustice problems.
        • TheWhite House Office of National Drug Control policy initiative on medicationassisted treatment. This program focuseson the national opioid crisis by providing medication assisted treatment priorto release from incarceration to decrease the probability of relapse. Thesepartnerships will no doubt contribute to the DOCR continuing to meet the increasingchallenges of mental health issues in corrections and the eventual developmentof a Criminal Justice Center that will best serve the County.

        The successful work of DOCR requires a strong collaborative approach not only with other public safety agencies (Police, Sheriff, Courts, etc.) but to an even larger extent, collaboration across the spectrum of human service fields. DOCR works closely with Health and Human Services to strategically align transitional services for those formerly incarcerated individuals returning to our communities. Through a comprehensive and inclusive approach to service delivery areas that can be extremely complex such as homelessness, mental health management, substance abuse treatment and other aspects of community health. Montgomery County is providing wrap-around services in a very efficient manner.

        In other key areas of evidence based practice such as workforce development and education, DOCR maintains a national reputation due in great part to strong partner relationships with organizations like Montgomery College, Montgomery County Public Schools and the Economic Development community of Montgomery County.

      Data Governance

      describes the quality of the data itself. Governance issues generally indicate that the data source is considered incomplete or unreliable.

      Model Health

      describes the quality of the predictive model. If the model health is poor, the trend prediction should not be trusted.
