        Why is this measure important?

        This measure helps track MCPL's goal of providing a suite of traditional and innovative services and resources to get young children existed about learning. This contributes to the County Executive's priority objective of "Children Prepared to Live and Learn."

        This measure indicates the average number of library services each of approximately 65,000 children under 5 in Montgomery County use per year, taken as the total number of services for children under 5 divided by Census estimates of the number of children under 5 in the County. The services captured by this measure include picturebook circulation, storytime attendance, summer reading registration, in-house use of picturebooks, circulation of specific materials types, discovery room use, Little Explorers Go!Kit checkouts, sessions on Early Literacy Digital Learning Stations, attendance at MCPL Outreach visits to daycares/pre-schools, and TumbleBook and Muzzy ebook usage (these are ebooks specifically for children under 5).
